Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect at my initial consultation?

Your first office visit with us will last approximately 60-90 minutes. We will listen to you, hear your full history, discuss all of your current health concerns, take a full medical history, perform a physical exam as appropriate, and then create an individualized treatment plan specifically for you. If you are a good candidate for one of our programs, Dr. Strand will discuss the specific details, strategies, any necessary lab tests, and the timing/schedule of your program so you can be successful and achieve your health goals.

How much does the initial consultation cost?

The initial consultation is $500.

How long is the initial consultation?

Your initial consultation with us will last approximately 60-90 minutes. This is to assure that we have sufficient time to provide you with the quality of comprehensive, functional naturopathic healthcare that you deserve. This consultation is noticeably longer than a typical consultation with an allopathic medical doctor. We believe that spending ample time with our patients, asking the proper questions, and listening to your entire history will allow us to comprehensively treat you as a person and not just treat your symptoms.

Is there any New Patient Paperwork that I need to fill out?

Yes! One of our main goals is to determine what the cause of your health issues are. Therefore, it is vital that we obtain enough information about you in order to help us identify and determine the underlying causes of your imbalance, dysfunction, and dis-ease.

To get the most value from your initial consultation with Dr. Strand, we request that you fully complete our comprehensive New Patient Paperwork on our online Patient Portal.  Simply go to our online Patient Portal (contact us for the link and instructions) -> go to the New Patient Paperwork page (the 3rd icon from the top) -> Fill out all 11 forms on that page (you do not need to fill out any other forms or questionnaires on any other pages unless Dr. Strand specifically asks you to).  We request that you have all 11 of these forms completed at least 3-5 days prior to your initial consultation, so Dr. Strand has ample time to review all of the information and be fully prepared for your consultation.  If you do not have all 11 of these forms completed 3-5 days prior to your consultation, we may need to reschedule your consultation.

What should I bring to my initial consultation?

If you are taking any nutritional supplements, please bring them (or a list of their ingredients) to your initial consultation so we can review them and advise you on any changes or recommendations. Also, if you have had any recent tests performed (blood tests, X-rays, MRI’s, etc), please upload a copy of the reports to the patient portal (with your New Patient Paperwork) at least 3-5 days prior to your initial consultation, so we can review them and add them to your chart.

How many Follow-Up visits will I need to have?

Follow-up visits usually last 30-60 minutes. Depending on your health concerns being addressed, the number of follow-up visits varies. Follow-up visits are usually scheduled 1-3 months after your initial visit and then less frequently as your health improves and your symptoms resolve. Although we love to see our patients, our goal is to have you achieve your Optimal Health so we only need to see you 1-2x per year.

If you are a candidate for our THRIVE program, the average number of visits is usually 6-8 in order to obtain your optimal health (or at least gain the information and tools to continue achieving your optimal health). Our other programs (DETOX, SHRINK) have weekly or monthly follow-ups already scheduled into the length of the program.

How do I know if I qualify for the THRIVE, DETOX, or SHRINK Programs?

Our Programs are for people who want to maximize their health. People who take responsibility for their health. People who are willing to do whatever it takes to get healthy and stay healthy. People who see the value in investing in their health and working with an office that is committed to helping them achieve their health goals. People who are as committed to their health as we are. If this is you, then you qualify for our programs and we would love to talk to you and get you started!

If you have a condition that requires immediate allopathic medical attention...or if you are not motivated to take responsibility and be accountable for your health...or if you are not willing to make significant nutrition and/or lifestyle changes...or if you do not believe your health is worth investing in...then our clinic is probably not a good fit for you.

Why do you offer programs?

We created our different comprehensive programs at the request of our patients so we could offer you more for your dollar. Each of our programs addresses different health issues & needs, such as weight loss, detoxification, fasting, stress/energy, inflammation, etc. There are different levels to each of our programs: a 3 month, self-guided level; a 3 month, physician-guided level; and a 9-12 month comprehensive, physician-guided level. Each of the levels of programs offers a specific amount of office visits, products, information/education, support, etc. at a significantly discounted price.

Patients love our programs because they get a lot of value and results for a lower cost than the typical pay-per-service costs. They like the structure and knowing exactly what to expect, when their appointments are, what services they will receive, what their responsibility is, what our responsibility is, etc. They feel empowered by investing in and committing to their health. They feel supported by us and they (typically) like us holding them accountable.

We love our programs because we love working with patients who are aligned with our values, who take responsibility for and are fully committed to their health, and who are ready to do whatever it takes to get healthy and stay healthy. We love having the opportunity to spend more time with and really get to know these patients. And it makes us so happy to watch them achieve their health goals, live their best life, and fulfill their purpose in life!

Are lab tests and supplements included?

Lab tests and supplements are not included in the typical services or programs that we offer. Some of the programs have labs and supplements included in the cost of the program, but not all of them. Because our programs and services are uniquely customized to each individual, and not based on generic protocols, any labs and/or nutraceutical products will be at an additional cost, depending on each person’s individual health needs.

For your convenience, we do offer an in-office natural medicinary and an online supplement ordering service for you to purchase any of the high quality, professional-grade nutraceutical products that we may recommend.

For many of our labs, we also offer direct lab pricing, which means that you pay the lab directly so you get the best prices on recommended lab tests.

How much do Functional Lab Tests cost?

Many Functional Lab Tests are not covered by insurance and can sometimes be quite pricey, so we try to maximize the value of testing that we recommend, while minimizing the cost. We do not believe in “over testing” our patients; however, in order to best determine the root cause of your health issues, it is sometimes necessary to order specific functional lab tests that go beyond the typical tests that you might be used to having. We’re committed to maximizing your access to the best functional laboratory testing through affordable and transparent pricing with the functional lab companies that we utilize, so we provide these labs at the lowest “doctor pricing” that is available.

Depending on what health issues you may be experiencing, we recommend that, on average, you budget between $500-$1000 for any functional lab testing that may be necessary.

How does the lab testing work?

Blood: Blood work can be completed in our office or at any of the draw stations that your insurance provider requires you to use (ex: LabCorp, Sonora Quest, etc).

Functional Labs: Functional lab tests are usually completed at home with the specific kit and clear instructions that we provide to you. Payments are either made to us (for “doctor pricing”) or directly to the lab to ensure you receive the lowest price possible.

PPO Insurance Plans, FSA, and HSA (Health Savings Account) benefits may be used to cover lab testing costs, depending on your program’s contract with the lab. Call your insurance company for details.

Do I need to sign up for one of your Programs (THRIVE, DETOX, SHRINK, etc)?

No. We believe that our programs are a valuable way to invest in your health, but we also fully understand that not everyone is able, ready &/or willing to commit to one of our comprehensive programs. Therefore, we have designed our practice for you to also have the option of an a la carte, pay-per-service approach if you feel more comfortable with that method of payment.

What is the investment in the Programs?

All the Program details can be found here. (follow up on this.)

Does the cost of the initial consultation apply to the cost of the Programs?

Yes, if you choose to participate in one of our comprehensive programs, your initial consultation is considered one of your appointments included in the Program. So when you enroll in any of our Programs, your payment for the initial consultation is then credited to the total investment in the Program.

What happens after I complete any of the Programs?

Once your health is on track, you won’t require our help as much. At the conclusion of your program(s), we will discuss any next steps, and design an annual plan for you to stay on track, and schedule follow up visits as needed.

Do I still need a Primary Care Physician?

Yes. I recommend that you continue to have a relationship with your primary care physician that is covered by your insurance. We do not bill insurance, have hospital rights, or provide all acute emergency services, so we do not replace all services that your current allopathic medical team can provide. If your insurance does not cover labs or testing that we (as naturopathic physicians) order, your Primary Care Provider may be able to order them and have them covered, so it is nice to have a good PCP on your team.

Does your office take insurance?
We are not a covered provider on any insurance plan, so we do not accept insurance or offer any insurance billing. There are many reasons for this, but the main one is because our health-care intentions and philosophies are not aligned with the intentions and disease-care philosophies of the current healthcare/insurance world in the US. We are focused on health, vitality, self healing, prevention, and personal responsibility. We do not feel comfortable allowing a system that does not share these same values to be in control of our patients’ choices and decisions when it comes to their personal health. Your health requires special attention, thorough communication, educational resources, and a significant amount of our time - none of which is covered by insurance companies. We strongly believe that insurance companies or other agencies should not interfere with the relationship between a patient and their doctor, with the quality of health care that is provided, with the amount of time that can be spent, or with the medical decisions that may need to be made. With that in mind, we are a proud direct care provider. However, for your convenience, we will provide you with a Superbill/Receipt with ICD-10 codes & CPT codes for each patient visit that you can submit to your insurance provider for out-of-network benefit reimbursement. Click here for more information on Insurance Coverage.
Can I use my HSA or FSA account?

Yes. You may be able to use your HSA or FSA accounts to pay for services, labs, and/or products. Some PPO Insurance plans often cover lab testing costs as well. Please check your with your insurance provider and/or Human Resources Department to find out more details on your specific coverage.
